The Nutcracker Pittsburgh reviews
not impressed
I have seen the Nutcracker Ballet one time, and it was performed by the Russian Ballet Company when they were touring in the USA. I don't know much about ballet, so I didn't think to see what company was creating this performance. It was probably average for a local ballet company, but very very poor compared to the Nutcracker at its full potential. The cost of m tickets to the Russian Ballet was not too much more than these tickets so I assumed it would be a similar level of quality. But I was wrong. It seems like the cheapest tickets should have been $7-8, but instead we paid almot $100 for three tickets plus fees for the cheapest tickets they had available. Whether or not I would recommend this would depend on what your expectations are and what level of quality you are wanting to see. My seven year old son (who has never seen another Nutcracker) loved the performance. I just couldn't stop thinking about how much I paid for the tickets compared to the Russian Ballet. . . .
It was okay
The ballet was nice, but it appeared we were attending a recital, not an actual ballet. While there were adults dancing in the show, the majority of the dancers were school aged girls and the people around us were calling out names and cheering loudly for their family members.
I agree 100% that family support is the most important thing, but the people around us were rude and extremely noisy. The row behind us was very busy and talked throughout the entire show. The row in front of us had a group of 4-5 adults who were sharing a vaping device of some sort, so we had this random vapor or smoke with odd smells going on as well.
This was not an event I will pay to go see again. Next year, I'll go to Houston to see the real one.
Politics involved in art :(
I never seen nutcracker before. I did some research online and found out the original story was taking part in Russia. This one was made out all about the Ukraine which is great for proceeds to go towards humanitarian adds.
But I feel the performance lost its originality. Main dancers were from Ukraine, wonder if Russian dancers were excluded because of this war. Feels like politics find its place in art and doesn’t feel good. I paid hefty price to bring my family but feel I didn’t get the most of it, original charm and wish someone has told me about.
